Woman And Young Boy Killed In Tragic Crash
We are learning of a crash that happened in Ellis County on January 13 that took the life of a 31-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy. The Texas Department of Public Safety says that the crash occurred near White Rock Road in Italy and involved two vehicles.
Aside from the two who were killed, an 8-year-old girl was flown to a Dallas hospital and a 10-year-old boy was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
A pickup truck that collided with the vehicle was being driven by a 33-year-old man. Police say that the pickup truck veered into the opposite lane of traffic and caused the crash. Officials are still investigating whether or not alcohol or drug impairment had a part in the incident.
At the Law Office of Dorothy Hyde, our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy. The families of those killed or injured are changed forever. If you need a Dallas car accident attorney, call us today and we will work out a path forward.
This is a large state and we see plenty of car accidents. During the latest reporting year, we know that there were:
- 254,853 car crash injuries
- 114,299 of those were serious injuries
- 3,721 people lost their lives in crashes
Think about these injuries for a moment:
- Spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Internal organ damage
- Broken or dislocated bones
- And more
Not only do these injuries require immediate and extensive medical interventions, but they often require long-term rehabilitation for a person to make a full recovery.
Many people face life-long disabilities after a serious vehicle accident injury.
Medical costs in the aftermath of a crash can add up quickly. Even minor injuries can lead to thousands of dollars in medical bills. For major injuries, people could be facing costs of more than a hundred thousand dollars.
What happens if the insurance companies will not cover these costs?
What about other accident-related costs like lost wages if a victim cannot work?
Why They Happen
Many vehicle accidents occur because a driver is extremely negligent. This can include the following types of behaviors:
- Drunk driving
- Distracted driving
- Aggressive driving
Regardless of how a driver’s negligence causes an injury, they should be held accountable for their actions.
