Police Search For Hit-And-Run Suspects
The Dallas Police Department is looking for help from the public as they search for two people they believe were involved in a serious accident on January 7. The crash happened at the intersection of St. Augustine Road and Elam Road at around 10:30 p.m. They say that the driver of a black Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling at high speeds when it lost control and hit a Nissan Pathfinder head-on.
The driver of the Pathfinder suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. There were four people in the Jeep, one female and three males. The female was seriously injured but the three males abandoned her at the scene. Witnesses said they saw them leave the scene on foot and that one of them appeared to be injured.
While we do not know the exact cause of this crash, we do know that this accident appears to have been caused by the recklessness driving of the Jeep driver. At the Law Office of Dorothy Hyde, this story highlights just how unpredictable the roadways can be. Texas DOT Statistics
The numbers for the state of Texas paint a tough picture for drivers here. For the latest reporting year, we saw:
- 254,853 people injured in vehicle crashes
- 14,299 people were seriously injured
- 3,721 people were killed
We see that they distinguish between total injuries and serious injuries. When we talk about injuries, we know that most accident injuries are relatively minor. However, even minor injuries can mean major medical bills. Even if a person is in and out of the hospital in two hours, they likely have undergone multiple procedures to ensure they are okay.
Even a bill for $3,000 can adversely affect a family living paycheck-to-paycheck if insurance does not cover it.
For serious crash injuries, the price tag can quickly rise into the hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills alone.
Why They Happen
Driver errors are usually at the heart of most vehicle accidents. In Texas, distracted driving killed 449 people in 2017. Drunk drivers took 1,024 lives for the same year. We also want to point out that speeding is a contributing factor in many major accidents. Most people do not think speeding is a problem, but it is negligence and causes major harm.
