Lyft Ride Turns Into A Nightmare
As ridesharing has become a regular thing for many Americans, but there are still many aspects of a ridesharing service that people still do not understand. That is especially true of three women from North Texas.
As a premier Lyft accident attorney in Dallas, Dotty Hyde knows that ridesharing services are still unexplored areas of law, but that does not mean nobody should be held accountable in an accident.
“Every time you step into a rideshare, you put your life at risk,” says the news anchor covering this story.
That certainly is something to think about. Most rides are completely safe, with courteous and diligent drivers. After all, an unsafe driver would not be a driver for long according to most ridesharing company standards.
Unfortunately, the women who shared a Lyft in December got more than they bargained for and it was not even their driver’s fault. They were on their way to see Michelle Obama speak on a book tour stop when their Lyft ride was struck by a truck which fled the scene. The impact caused serious injuries to all three women during the incident and they have thousands of dollars each in medical bills.
One of the women works as a stylist and can no longer stand on her feet for long periods of time. Her ability to earn an income has been significantly limited.
“My income has decreased, and I have to work in pain,” she said. “It’s affected my whole life.”
One of the other women in the crash ended up with bulging discs in her back and a dislocated vertebra in her neck.
The problem is that Lyft is not offering to pay for any of their expenses, despite having insurance policies that carry up to $1 million in liability insurance per ride. They say that the accident was not caused by them and they should go through the insurance of the driver responsible. Well, they have no idea who hit them because the driver fled the scene.
This Is A Problem
This has been a major issue for people injured in ridesharing accidents. Whether the ridesharing driver is responsible for the accident or not, you can be sure that the companies and their insurance agencies are going to put up a fight. They will almost never volunteer to offer a settlement, especially one that will cover all of the expenses related to an accident.
