There have been seven Fort Worth police officers on desk duty ever since Christopher Lowe, 55, died while in police custody. Now, those officers are about to find out their punishments for their part on the incident.
When they responded in July to calls of a man pounding on the hood of a vehicle, they quickly apprehended Lowe. He was handcuffed and placed into a police car. News reports say that Lowe began to complain of medical issues but was ignored. Officers soon found him unresponsive and he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to reports, the officers face a range of disciplinary actions, from a few days’ suspension to termination.

What Can Happen
Wrongful death cases come about when another person’s reckless, careless, or negligent actions cause another person to lose their life. The victim’s family can bring a wrongful death lawsuit against the person, people, company, or agency they believe is responsible. Below, we will cover a few of the common ways in which we see these cases arise.
There were more than 14,000 people seriously injured in Texas according to statistics from the latest reporting year. Many of those were caused by extreme driver negligence. This can include distracted driving and drunk driving.
If an employer fails to provide proper training or the necessary equipment for their workers to do their jobs and it causes someone to lose their life, they could be held accountable. There are also times when third-parties such as other contractors, do not follow the same safety standards.
Thousands of products are recalled each year because they pose a danger to consumers. This could be due to a labeling issue or a design/manufacturing flaw.
Medical mistakes are the third leading cause of death in the US and happen when a medical professional is negligent in their duties to provide a high level of care.
(Please know that this is not a complete list and you should always seek help from a qualified attorney about your specific case.)

While we do not usually bring you stories from outside of the state, this is one we think you need to see. Recently, in Tennessee, the staff at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center were not upfront about what really killed one of their patients.
Last December, a patient was set to receive a routine sedative. Instead, a nurse administered the powerful drug vecuronium, a drug used to keep patients from moving during surgery. This is also one of the drugs used to kill people during lethal injection.
When the patient received this drug, they lost consciousness, went into cardiac arrest, and were subsequently left brain dead. They were taken off of life support the next day.
At first, the county medical examiner’s office was not told about the cause of the death. Now, an investigation is underway to expose a possible cover-up. At the Law Office of Dorothy Hyde, we know that there are a number of ways that another person’s negligence can cause people to lose their lives. How This Happens
Wrongful death cases arise when another person’s negligence, willful act, or wrongful act causes the death of another person. It is not always just one person who is responsible. Sometimes it can be a group, company, or agency.
- Medical Malpractice
- Impaired Drivers
- Workplace Accidents
- Faulty Products
- Premises Incidents
- Pedestrian And Bicycle Injuries
– As evidenced by the story above, medical mistakes can be deadly. They kill at least 250,000 people a year and are the third leading cause of death in the United States. We often see these occur due to medication errors, surgical errors, doctor misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, and more.
– In Dallas, drunk drivers are a major source of concern. For the latest reporting year in Texas , over 1,000 people were killed due to alcohol-involved crashes.
– Employers need to ensure that they provide a safe working environment for employees. This includes ensuring that all workers have the equipment and protective gear needed for their job.
– Each year, hundreds of products are recalled due to faulty designs, manufacturing errors, or problems with the labeling (warnings, dosages, ingredients, etc.).
– Slip and fall accidents cause more injuries than all other premises liability claims. Property owners and employees should work to ensure their patron’s safety at all times.
– These two groups of people are especially vulnerable in and around the roadway and can be harmed by reckless driving behavior.

Today we want to bring you a tragic story out of West Dallas. It happened earlier this month at the construction site of a three-story townhome. Shortly before 4PM on October 8, the building collapsed.
Unfortunately, one person was killed and five others were injured. While we still are not sure what caused the accident, we do know that Raul Ortega Cabrera, the man who died, left behind two children. His wife was pregnant with their third child.
We know that none of them started their day expecting a tragedy. Now, Mr. Cabrera’s family has to move forward without him.
Construction work is dangerous and often deaths in the industry are preventable. It is also not the only place where we see possible wrongful death cases. Wrongful death cases arise when else’s negligence, willful act, or wrongful act causes the death of another person. We see this happen in various ways.
Any employer who does not provide the proper equipment and training can potentially be contributing to fatal accidents.
According to the CDC, 29 people die in the US every day from a crash involving an alcohol-impaired driver, but drunk drivers are not the only ones killing people on the roadway. More and more, we are finding that distracted drivers are causing harm.
Medical mistakes are now the third leading cause of death in the United States. This includes things like surgical errors, misdiagnosis, medication errors, infections, and more.
At this moment, there are thousands of product recalls taking place across the country, many of which consumers never know about. Faulty products can cause injury and death due to a poor design, a manufacturing error, or a labeling problem.
Murder is not only a criminal case; it can be a civil case as well. The families of murder victims can sue the person responsible for killing their loved one for damages.
